In today’s Gospel we see that prudent decisiveness means that we recognize that all our choices in daily living are really choices for eternal life. Admission into heaven is something money cannot buy. The only currency that has any value to secure our entrance is that of love.
We honestly try to live good lives. When opportunities present themselves to act in a Christian way, most of us respond appropriately most of the time. This gospel challenges us to take this one step further. With an eye to the future, we must surrender ourselves to searching out opportunities to live the paschal mystery. There is such an urgency about discipleship that we cannot be passive in any way. Just as Jesus did all he needed to do to make his message known, so must we be as proactive in our own discipleship. Weekly Status of Giving:
Through your gifts for the week up to 9/4/19, the Holy Redeemer SVDP Conference has brought the love and care of Jesus to the poor by assisting 19 families with food worth $2,010 and 3 families with rent/utilities totaling $1,200. 1,886 lbs of in-kind food donations were collected through the generosity of Parishioners and Friends, and 34 volunteer hours were worked including 12 care center visits. In addition, the SVDP/Bethel Lutheran co-sponsorship of the Sunday Community Breakfast fed 300 hungry, mostly homeless persons in our midst.
