Next weekend will be the Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal 2020 for every parish in the Archdiocese of Portland. The theme for this year is: “Show Forth the Love of God in Our Lives through Service.”
At all the Masses, we will watch a short video by Archbishop Alexander Sample where he reminds us of our baptismal call to serve the needs of others with our gifts. He highlights the primary beneficiaries of this year’s appeal: those senior priests who have generously given their lives in service and who are now retired. Of the roughly $3,000,000 that will be raised in the Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal, $1,000,000 will go to meet the needs of senior priests in the Archdiocese.
The remainder of the funds received will go towards Pastoral Ministries (Catechesis and Faith Formation; Deaf Ministry; Life, Justice & Peace; Marriage and Family Life; Ministry Formation; People with Disabilities; Prison Ministry; Youth Ministry), Vocations and Seminary Education, Ethnic Vicariates, Campus Ministries, the Permanent Diaconate, Support for Struggling Parishes, and the Oregon Catholic Conference.
The Archdiocese depends greatly on the success of the Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal to carry out its essential ministries. Ultimately, these ministries serve the needs of all the parishes in Western Oregon, including our own. Each parish is asked to contribute a specific amount based on the number of registered families and their annual contribution to the parish. We at Holy Redeemer Parish are being asked to contribute $43,938.47.
I ask each of you to prayerfully consider what you are in a position to contribute to the Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal. Your sacrificial gift will touch the lives of many people who will directly benefit from the ministries of the Archdiocese of Portland.
I continue to be inspired by your ongoing generosity and thank you for it. May God bless you in turn for your kindness and service to others.
Yours in Christ,
